VIENNA INTERNATIONAL APARTMENT®
Parc Château-Banquet 6, 1202 Geneva, Switzerland

VIENNA INTERNATIONAL APARTMENT runs two exhibitions a year, spring and autumn. It provides a new platform for the arts, bringing together artists from different cultures and backgrounds. The space is a private apartment located in a building which houses both commercial and living spaces. From 2001 to 2003, the venue was located at Linke Wienzeile 4 in Vienna, Austria; from 2003 to 2005 at Eerikinkatu 37 in Turku, Finland; from 2006 to 2007 at Viides linja 14 in Helsinki, Finland; from 2007 to 2010 at Rue de l'Etuve 81 in Brussels, Belgium; and since 2010 at Parc Château-Banquet 6, Geneva, Switzerland. The venue changes its location every time the organizers move to a new place.

VIENNA INTERNATIONAL APARTMENT opens an arena for discussion on issues involving contemporary art practice. As an "independent space", it deals with the limits and boundaries between private and public spaces. The choice of the venue as such addresses this concept by redefining the private nature of the domestic space, making it public. This reflects the development in contemporary art practice: the move from one-purpose spaces to others allowing multiple activities to take place at the same time. Questions are raised through the art works: how do we negotiate the relationship between the private and the public, and how do we relate to them?

VIENNA INTERNATIONAL APARTMENT is a registered non-profit art association. The Chairman is Sílvio Salgado, artist and independent curator. VIENNA INTERNATIONAL APARTMENT also organises art events outside the Apartment.
